Nicholasville Now!  is a downtown revitalization and community development non-profit organization* affiliated with Kentucky Renaissance on Main, the Kentucky Main Street Program and the National Main Street Center.  The program was started in Nicholasville in 1999.  Connected to a network of small communities across the nation, the group is working on the revitalization of historic downtown Nicholasville, Kentucky.  The organization follows the four-point Main Street approach, working to implement projects in four key areas: 

Organization - means getting everyone working toward the same goal.  The tough work of building consensus and cooperation among the groups that have an important stake in downtown Nicholasville can be eased by using the common-sense formula of a volunteer-driven program and an organizational structure of boards and committees.

Design - means getting downtown Nicholasville into tip-top physical shape.  Capitalizing on its best assets such as historic buildings and traditional downtown layout is just part of the story.  An inviting atmosphere created through window displays, parking areas, signs, sidewalks, streetlights, and landscaping conveys a visual message about what Nicholasville is and what it has to offer.

Promotion - means selling the image and promise of downtown Nicholasville to all prospects.  By marketing the downtown’s unique characteristics to shoppers, investors, new business, and visitors, an effective promotion strategy forges a positive image through advertising, special events and marketing campaigns carried out by local volunteers.

Economic Restructuring - means finding a new purpose for Nicholasville’s downtown enterprises.  By helping existing downtown businesses expand and recruiting new ones to respond to today’s market, the Main Street program helps convert unused space into productive property and sharpen the competitiveness of business enterprises.

of the Main Street Program:

3.A public-private partnership is necessary to make meaningful, long-term downtown revitalizationpossible.

7.Main Street is implementation oriented.

Nicholasville Now! addresses all four points, applying the eight principles, and combines historic  preservation and economic development strategies.  The Main Street process is incremental, with improvements occurring over a period of years.  Through cooperation and collaboration from both public  and private sectors, Nicholasville Now! continues to work towards the revitalization of the historic downtown.
